In 2005, the band released their second studio album, You Could Have It So Much Better, which was produced by Rich Costey.

Their third studio album, Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, was announced in late 2008 and released in January 2009.The album gained a positive commercial performance as well as positive reviews from critics.
