"King Gnu" (Kingneu) is a Japanese quartet mixer band, formed around Daisuke Tsunoda.
The band name is derived from the thought that "Gnu = nu" originated from the spring, joining little by little from the spring, eventually becoming a huge group, and they also wanted to do so. Each member has been influenced by multi-directional music, and since he created new music from it, they call their own music "Tokyo New Mixture Style". Their production of music videos and visual design including logotypes carried out by the creator group "PERIMETRON", which is lauched by Tsunoda.
King Gnu can be seen in and around the Japanese jam session scene. In particular, members of King Gnu were regulars at the jam session, Battle of Study, an event where musicians from all over the country would get together for a biweekly jam. The session was started by Motoharu Fukuda, former saxophonists for the band Soil & Pimp Sessions and currently throwing fire for Speak No Evil. The purpose of the event was for musicians to hone their skills in various styles and genres. Every session, a new theme would be chosen. All of the night’s jam would centered on that theme; for example, jazz, hip hop, funk, soul, and even the music of the Beatles.
King GNU has been getting lots of attention recently. Every bit of it has been well-deserved. Their sound is pop and rock but the songs drip with amazing bass lines and strong steady groove. The composition is unpredictable and complex making them more that your average pop band.
One of the things that is also striking about the band is it’s sense of artistry. The video and images of the band are done is a high style that show their awareness of design and the impact it can have on their audience. Of course, design never ever overshadows the quality of sound.
Up up and up…that is where they are headed and good on them.
SANABAGUN. (SANABAGAN) is an eight-person jazz / hip-hop group in Japan. The group name is from English slang "Son of a gun" which means "rogue".
An 8-person group consists of six instruments, vocals and MC, including two wind instruments. All the members were born in Heisei, and worked with the "Hip Hop Hop Hop Hop Hop Hop Hop Team Teaching Rep". It features a crossover musicality based on jazz and hip-hop by live performance, which has lots of members from the music university, led by solid skills and knowledge.
Takashiwa who was supposed to serve as the opening act of Seoul singer / Shiina Junpei thought that it would not be interesting to sing jazz standards ordinarily, so in a solo name "Ryo Takanawa Lip Hip Hop Side" it is a jazzy sound of hip-hop with raw sounds I started playing. The current drum, trumpet and sax join there. After that, after membership exchange and base, guitar, rapper (MC) joining, it officially started as SANABAGUN. In March 2013. At the same time I started live on the street in Shibuya and became the current membership in the summer of 2013.
Cameron Jibril Thomaz (born September 8, 1987), known professionally as Wiz Khalifa, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and actor. He released his debut album, Show and Prove, in 2006, and signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2007. His Eurodance-influenced single, "Say Yeah", received urban radio airplay, charting on the Rhythmic Top 40 and Hot Rap Tracks charts in 2008, becoming his first minor hit.
Khalifa parted with Warner Bros. and released his second album, Deal or No Deal, in November 2009. He released the mixtape Kush and Orange Juice as a free download in April 2010; he then signed with Atlantic Records. He is also well known for his debut single for Atlantic, "Black and Yellow", which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut album for the label, Rolling Papers, was released on March 29, 2011. He followed that album with O.N.I.F.C. on December 4, 2012, which was backed by the singles "Work Hard, Play Hard" and "Remember You". Wiz released his fifth album Blacc Hollywood on August 18, 2014, backed by the lead single "We Dem Boyz". In March 2015, he released "See You Again" for the soundtrack of the film Furious 7 and the song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 non-consecutive weeks.
Khalifa was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota, to parents serving in the military. His parents divorced when Khalifa was about three years old. He is a military brat with his parents' military service causing him to move regularly. Khalifa lived in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan before settling in Pittsburgh with his mother in around 1996 where he attended Taylor Allderdice High School. Soon after moving to Pittsburgh, Khalifa began to write and perform his own lyrics before he was a teenager.
His stage name is derived from Khalifa, an Arabic word meaning "successor", and wisdom, which was shortened to Wiz when Khalifa was a young boy. Khalifa stated to Spinner.com that the name also came from being called "young Wiz 'cause I was good at everything I did, and my granddad is Muslim, so he gave me that name; he felt like that's what I was doing with my music." He got a tattoo of his stage name on his 17th birthday.
Dreams was one of the original prominent jazz rock bands in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The band was formed by Jeff Kent and Doug Lubahn, who wrote and arranged their songs. It began as a trio and evolved into a horn-based band over time. They were later joined by Will Lee, Don Grolnick, Bob Mann, and Eddie Vernon.
Dreams selected as their producer, composer and sound engineer, Fred Weinberg, whose work included albums for Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, La Lupe, Mongo Santamaria, Celia Cruz, Illustration (Alan Lorber's group), and Little Anthony. Phil Ramone, another highly respected producer and studio owner, for whom Weinberg worked at the time at a studio named A & R in New York City, gave his blessings to Weinberg to record and mix the Dreams LP with former Atlantic A-1 engineer Jim Reeves at CBS Studios in New York City. During the Dreams sessions the recording sessions were moved by CBS execs to their CBS Chicago Studios because the CBS 52nd street studios became booked for several weeks by Paul Simon, and because Dreams had a deadline for their LP release. The album received a full page ad[1] and a favorable review in Billboard Magazine.
Dreams' second and final album Imagine My Surprise was produced in Memphis by Steve Cropper. Cropper wanted to "help the audience to better understand the group" so in his production he put "funkier, more commercial rhythms behind [the band]" while trying to "keep jazz up front at the same time."
While Dreams did not achieve the commercial success of either Chicago or Blood Sweat & Tears, they served as a launchpad for eventually prominent jazz fusion artists Billy Cobham, Don Grolnick, and Randy & Michael Brecker (later known as the Brecker Brothers). Other prominent band members included guitarist John Abercrombie, trombonist Barry Rogers, guitarist Bob Mann (who later joined Mountain) and bassist Will Lee.
One of the principal differences between Dreams and most other brass-infused bands was Dream's emphasis on spontaneity. The horn section would "work up spontaneous arrangements by jamming, always leaving them wide open to interpretations from night to night."
Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll (born 11 September 1991), better known by his stage name Kygo (Norwegian: [ˈkyːɡuː] ), is a Norwegian DJ, songwriter and record producer.
He garnered international attention with his December 2013 remix of the track "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran, and his March 2015 single "Firestone".
In late 2015, Kygo became the fastest artist to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify and by June 2016, he had reached 2 billion streams on Spotify.
Kygo has since released several singles, such as "Stole the Show", "Here for You", "Stay", "It Ain't Me", and a remix of "Higher Love" performed by Whitney Houston, all of which have debuted on several international charts. Kygo's debut album Cloud Nine was released on 13 May 2016.
He made history on 21 August 2016 at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when he became the first house music producer to perform at an Olympics closing ceremony.
In March 2018, Billboard ranked Kygo 3rd on its 2018 ranking of dance musicians titled Billboard Dance 100.
Kygo has studied piano since he was 6 years old and considers himself more of a pianist than a disc jockey. His music is generally around 100 beats per minute, compared to 128 beats per minute for traditional house music.
His stage name is derived from the first 2 letters of his first and last names and he got the idea for this name after a school computer system automatically generated the word "Kygo" as his login user name.
Kygo was born 11 September 1991 as a foreign born in Singapore, the son of Kjersti Gjerde, a dentist, and Lars Gørvell-Dahll, who was working abroad in the maritime industry. He has an older stepbrother Mads, two older sisters Johanne and Jenny, and a younger half-brother Sondre. Through his childhood, he lived and traveled with his family in Brazil, Japan, Kenya and Egypt.
Kygo started getting piano lessons at the age of six. He stopped when he was 15 or 16 and started producing music with Logic Studio and a MIDI keyboard while watching several tutorials on YouTube. When he decided to pursue music full-time he was halfway through a degree in business and finance at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was active in various DJ battles, won the grand prize for three years at Vestax’s No Tricks DJ Battle, and in 2010 became No Tricks Japan/Korea champion at Seoul World DJ Festival. He instead began to focus on playing at clubs, and in 2013 entered the Red Bull Thre3Style competition as the representative of Japan.
