Spring Blessed Shigeyama Kyogen Club
"Spring Blessed Shigeyama Kyogen Club" is an annual event held by Hyogo Prefectural Culture and Art Center in every spring.
Since its opening, Shigeyama Kyogen club brings warm smile to the arts and culture center with spring first wind.
"Tofu Kyogen" is a play that has been performed by the Sengoro Shigeyama family who inhabits Kyoto since the Edo period, and it has been loved by everyone of all ages and youngsters.
This play is for every kind of people like who watch Kyogen for the first time, people who are from 0 years old to grandpa grandma generation. All of you can enjoy "Everyone has fun by Kyogen".
Having Sengoro Shigeyama XIV who has been succeeded the stage-name in September 2016 as a leader, Shigeyama family delivers "Tofu Kyogen" with warm and kind laughters.
It is the most famous voluntary performance in the Shigeyama family which was established in 1967. At the time of its establishment, rather than being a general customer, there was a strong element of a supportive association, and the greetings of its inception are Mr. Hideki Yukawa, the recipient of the Nobel laureate.
Currently in the Shigeyama family, Shigeyama Kyogen club performs two annual performances of spring and autumn as the most important voluntary performances. As a place to show off great music and rare songs that can only be played at the Kyogen club with performance all of the family appears, you can see many ambitious performances every year.
Ippei Shigeyama (May, 1979 June 12 -) is a Noh/ Kyogen actor.
He was born in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. He graduated from Higashiyama High School and entered to Ritsumeikan University Faculty of Literature Department of Japanese History Studies but dropped out.
He studied Kyogen under his father · Shime Shigeyama II, grandfather · Sensaku Shigeyama IV, and great grandfather · Sensaku Shigeyama III. After that, he made his debut on the performance "Narihira mochi" in 1983 as a role of a child. In 1994, he formed "Hanagata Kyogen Shonentai" with his older brother · Motohiko, and his cousin Shigeru. Since 2000, he organized a society of mind, technique, and body, "educational classic Kyogen promotion preparation training (TOPPA!)", with Senzaburo, Masakuni, Motohiko, Shigeru and Douji.
Acting as an actor, he also appeared in continuous TV novels such as "Kyo, Futari", "Audrey", NHK Taiga Drama "MUSASHI" (NHK General TV). Elder brother Motohiko also appeared in continuous TV novels "Futarikko" and "Chiritotechin".
In September 17, 2006, he took a break for study abroad in France as a trainee of the Agency for Cultural Affairs Advanced Artists Overseas Training System. He returned to Japan in September 2007.
He got married in 2008 and the eldest son was born in January 2009.
Tatsuya Iguchi is a Kyogen actor. He was born on July 22, 1976.
In 2003, he studied under the Sengoro Shigeyama III (current Sensaku). He graduated from the Kyoto Nogaku training course in 2011 and joined the Kyoto Nogaku-kai the same year.

The "Kane no oto (sound of the bell)" played by the Sensaku Master (at that time) was the first time he saw Kyogen. It seemed like the bell actually appears on the stage, I could imagine the scene where the bell shakes, I was impressed." It became the starting point for walking along the way of Kyogen actor.
After graduating the vocational college, changing the job for 16 times, he reached the Shigayama Kyogen Association Secretariat. It was also the workplace where the deceased mother once worked. "It was a time when I do not understand Kyogen at all, but my desire to appear on stage was getting more and more ..." he said. More than 10 years since then. I could not remember the words, it was a painful feeling.
Moriyuki Yamashita is a Kyogen actor. He was born on October 11, 1976.
From the encounter with Masakuni Shigeyama (now Sengoro) in 2001, he entered and studied under the Sengoro Shigeyama XIII (now Sensaku).
He returned to Kagoshima, his home town in 2002. He worked on spreading activities such as the Kyogen workshop in the local area.
Since 2008, when he decided to start again as a professional, he re-entered to the Sengoro Shigeyama XIII (now Sensaku), and studying.
Everything is based on experience, every day using everything as it is devoted.

He is from Kagoshima, the furthest away from Kyoto. Due to family circumstances once abandoned the way of Kyogen actor, but after 6 years he entered again. "It is your edge, you are a disciple and someone else but I was treat like a family, the warm atmosphere of the house. I think that helped me to be who I am now" he said.
He lost parents and grandmother during his homecoming, he had been working part-time job at that time, and organized Kyogen workshop for locals, such as focusing on dissemination activities.
In the "Goshokai" formed by the five members from the Sengoro Shigeyama family, he was the first who got played "Sanbaso" which requires special teaching to play. Receive the teachings of the teacher and keep in mind that "Think carefully the meaning of words and tell them to audiences." His favorite quote is Misuzu Kaneko's poem "Everyone is different, everyone is good."
Kaoru Matsumoto is a Kyogen actor. He was born on March 24 1951.
He fell in love with arts of Sengoro Shigeyama XII and was a groupie. By trigger of being a groupie, he decided to enter to Shigeyama family.
He entered to Sengoro Shigeyama X11 (now Sensaku IV) while he was studying at Ritsumeikan University in 1974. He made his debut in "Urinusubito" when he was 23 years old. Since then, he performed "Sanbaso" in 1988, "Tsurigitsune" in 1993 and "Hanako" in 1996 all of which requires special teaching to perform.
He also performs abroad a lot.
In 1984, he organized "Sanshokai" with Masami Amitani and Yasushi Maruishi who are also belong to Shigeyama family. Since its establishment, they organized "Kyogen Sanshokai" (it was "Kyogen study group" at first) 5 times a year for 27 years, in they performed 131 stages by the final performance held in 2011. As he is a Kyogen fan, we can see that his attitude that always thinks of the audience's feelings not only for the stage but also for a glimpse of everywhere.
