Dai Kimura and Dai Sakakibara
From 5 years old he studied under guitarist Father Yoshihiro.
1988 when in elementary school he won nationwide student guitar competition. His name was known all over the country. In junior high school days, from 1995 to 1997 he won the 20th student guitar competition, middle school student 's department. At the same time, he won the GLC award given to the winner in all divisions. He got the 11th Junior Guitar Competition Best Award, first place in the 13th Spanish guitar competition.
In 1996, at the Tokyo International Guitar Competition, which is said to be the world's highest level at the guitar competition, he was only 14 years old and won as the youngest in history.
In 1999, at the age of 17, he made CD debut at "The Cadenza 17", and sold 50,000 pieces which can be said as a hit as a classic CD. This CD features several songs by American guitarist Andrew York.
Studied abroad at the Royal Conservatory of Music from April 2002 to March 2004. As a first step after returning home, he played two consecutive nightly contests with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
He also likes heavy metal as his brother's influence, and in 2000 he interviewed Yngwie Malmsteen with a guitar magazine "YOUNG GUITAR". He wrote commentary on Yngwie's album "War To End All Wars" (Japanese version). in March 2013 he released an album "HERO" which included cover songs such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Randy Rose, and Kyoji Yamamoto of BOWWOW We participate in the guitar instrument project "6 strings Vol.2" produced by "Takeda no Komori Uta".
Dai Sakakibara was born in 1967. Started playing the piano at the age of four.
Formed the band G-CLEF while attending Tokyo University of the Arts; opened up a field of instrumental fusion music based on his outstanding musical abilities and performance skills and produced a broad array of achievements, including seven tours across the country and a first-ever appearance by an instrumental band on Kohaku Utagassen, an annual year-end music show on NHK TV.
Sakakibara’s powerful style and superb sensitivities go beyond genre and continue to be demonstrated after the dissolution of his band, as seen in his stage support and arrangements for artists such as violinist Taro Hakase, the Gospellers, Mika Nakashima, Seiko Matsuda, and Kohei Otomo.
Sakakibara began full-fledged solo activities in 2001 and has released seven original albums to date. He has also worked on numerous soundtracks for movies and television dramas, including the score for NHK’s morning drama series “Fight” in 2005, the NTV drama “Bull Doctor” in 2011, and the theme music for “ANN News” on the TV Asahi network of broadcast affiliates.
In 2014 he released “Dear Classix”, an album of classical cover performances, and “Dear Love Songs”, an album of pop cover songs from King Records in July 2015.
