Sky Jamboree 2019 - one pray in nagasaki
Sky Jamboree (Sky Jamboree) is an outdoor rock festival sponsored by FM Nagasaki, which is held every August in Inasayama Park outdoor stage in Nagasaki Prefecture.
The reggae festival that FM Nagasaki has held every year in Iojima Town, Nagasaki Prefecture since 1989 is the predecessor. The name was changed to the current "Sky Jamboree" in 1999, and the venue was moved to the Inasayama Park outdoor stage, and it was reborn as a rock festival.
Sky Jamboree came about after a chance meeting between producer Katsuro Arimoto and Kemuri frontman and vocalist Fumio Ito. Their belief is that music brings everyone together — not a revolutionary concept per se, but they built on it: when everyone enjoys music together in one place, they create peace in the world. That’s where the festival’s annual theme, “one pray in Nagasaki” comes in. By rocking out alongside friends and enemies, it’s a modern (and very rock’n’roll) way of creating world peace, even if it’s just one corner of Japan for one day of the year.
Nagasaki (長崎) is an attractively situated port city on the island of Kyushu and the capital of Nagasaki Prefecture.
Nagasaki was the only port in Japan open to international trade between the 17th and 19th centuries. China and the Netherlands were Japan’s exclusive trading partners during these two centuries. You will see reminders of this period in the city’s exotic townscape and numerous former foreign residences. Meanwhile, Nagasaki is a city with a tragic history. In spite of the brief spread of Christianity throughout the city, missionaries and followers were severely suppressed and persecuted. During World War Two, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The city has been leading the world in calling for peace ever since.
Nagasaki is the foundation of Japan’s modernisation. A number of industrial remnants of the beginning of Japan’s industrial revolution have been designated as UNESCO World Heritages. Eight of the twenty-three of these World Heritage Sites are in Nagasaki including famous Hashima(Battleship Island).
Nagasaki once flourished as the headquarters of missionary work in Japan following the visit of St. Francis Xavier and other missionaries. Trades and Christian culture prospered in the city until the introduction of a 250-year ban on Christianity.
Hidden Christians continued to practise their faith in secret while suffering persecution and pretending to be Buddhists or Shintoists.
After the long and desperate underground period, Christianity was eventually revived here.
Today, as the home of Christians praying for their ancestors, Oura Catholic Church presents the world with a unique story of resurrection after centuries of persecution. The church have been designated as UNESCO World Heritages in 2018.
LAMP IN TERREN (Lamp in Tellen) was formed in 2006, a Japanese quartet rock band. The precursor to LAMP IN TERREN was formed in 2006 by Matsumoto Hiroshi, Nakahara Takehito, and Oya Shintaro in junior high school in the Nagasaki Prefecture. After the withdrawal of Oya in 2011, their local friend Kawaguchi Daigi joined to form the three-piece band.
In 2012 they decided to fully focus on band activity, and created their name "LAMP IN TERREN" (formerly written Lamp in terren). In Latin "terra" means "star" or "earth". The band name was coined to mean the "faint light of the world". They released their self-produced EP voyage in September of that same year. In July 2013, the band held their first voluntary planning one-man live titled "BLUESYARD". In December, they won the Grand Prix at the contest "RO69JACK" of amateur artists.
On January 14, 2015, LAMP IN TERREN made their major debut under A-Sketch with the album silver lining. In October, founding member Oya Shintaro returned to the group.
The lyrics and the overwhelming singing voice that spelled inside of Matsumoto's drawing person, and that voice were sounded by four people. LAMP IN TERREN is a group playing music that gives a color to the listener's everyday life and pushes the movement of musical groups.

Man with a Mission, stylized as MAN WITH A MISSION or sometimes as MWAM is a Japanese rock band which was formed in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan in 2010. This band currently consists five band members, with stage names of Tokyo Tanaka (vocals, leader), Jean-Ken Johnny (guitar, vocals, rap), Kamikaze Boy (bass guitar, backing vocals), DJ Santa Monica (DJ, sampling) and Spear Rib (drums).
This band has been playing hard rock and dance-pop as their music. Their distinguishing feature is that all of the members wear differently designed wolf masks during both their concerts and their music videos.
Before becoming popular, the band invented a back-story for why they wear wolf masks, which involves them being created as the "Ultimate Life Form" by Jimi Hendrix, who is described by the band as being the doctor of the guitar and master wolf biologist. They were then frozen in Antarctica for years. While they were frozen, they had been listening to all kinds of music from all around the world, before later escaping and emerging onto the Japanese music scene.
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra commonly abbreviated by fans as Skapara or TSPO, is a Japanese ska and jazz band officially formed in 1988 by the percussionist Asa-Chang, and initially composed of over 10 veterans of Tokyo's underground scene.
At the time, the band's sound was unlike that of any of its contemporaries in the then fledgling Japanese ska scene, and over the course of the past 21 years, their innovation has proved to have been very influential on Japanese music as a whole. Its sound, the product of the musical influences of its numerous members, is an eclectic mix of traditional ska, jazz, and rock. In the vein of many other more traditional ska acts, many of Skapara's songs are purely instrumental.
Since its inception, the band has gone on several nationwide tours of Japan, and have toured extensively worldwide. They have collaborated with several vocalists outside of their band, including Shiina Ringo, Akira Kobayashi, Kyōko Koizumi, Schadaraparr, PUFFY, Yoshie Nakano and Tamio Okuda.
They also performed the Japanese theme song to the PlayStation 2 game Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, entitled "Black Jack" as well as numerous songs for the PlayStation game Incredible Crisis released in 1999.
Glim Spanky is a Japanese rock band from Nagano Prefecture, consisting of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Remi Matsuo and lead guitarist Hiroki Kamemoto. Originally formed in 2007 as a quartet, the group became a duo in February 2010.
Glim Spanky's music is largely influenced by Western rock and blues bands from the 1960s and 1970s. Matsuo's husky vocals have been likened to those of Janis Joplin. She is the principal songwriter of the band's lyrics and music, but when she only has a guitar riff, chord progression or drum phrase before working with Kamemoto to turn it into a song, then both get credited for the music as Glim Spanky.
Matsuo cited The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Joni Mitchell as influences. She grew up in an artistic family and was exposed to a wide range of music and cultures by meeting musicians and poets. In addition to the ubiquitous Western bands, she also heard French music, African rock, Shibuya-kei and folk.
Kamemoto started playing guitar because of Glay, then moved on to Nirvana, Guns N' Roses, Oasis, Jimi Hendrix and Cream. The duo are also fans of Japanese bands such as Bump of Chicken, Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Ellegarden which they grew up listening to. Both members cited The Beatles as their biggest influence.
Talking about their second album Next One in 2016, Matsuo said that it is "absurd" to try and put Japanese lyrics in Western-style rock music. "But even so, you have to, so although Japanese lyrics are included on top of the melody, if you were to remove them you would have a completely Western-style melody, so we made the album that that in mind."
In regards to what the band wanted to do next, she said that because rock music is imported from the West, she pondered what type of rock people in the West can not make, and came up with "orientalness." Western artists became influenced by Indian music and created psychedelic rock, but "Luckily for us, we already have that orientalness the moment we are born. We can put out there something people in the West cannot, so we are establishing ourselves a Japanese kind of rock that will echo throughout the world[...] A genuine oriental psychedelic rock band."
Speaking of their 2017 album Bizarre Carnival, the singer described their first and second albums as "business cards to introduce ourselves. Up until now, we've held off on the kind of maniacal rock music we really like." 2018's Looking for the Magic begins with distorted vocals as Matsuo wanted the listener to be unable to tell where the singer was from in order "to create a utopia-like song that gradually enthralls listeners."
The band found recording in Los Angeles quite different than in Japan, where its done in completely soundproof rooms with expensive cables. For "TV Show" they purposely left the white noise in to give it a raw feel. Matsuo referred to the song as a wake up call against people believing fake news on the internet; "Now that's scary. I wanted to say [in this song] that people should think for themselves about what is true, without just being fed information." She further stated "I've always included hope into even my most judgmental songs, because I believe rock music is about hope."
Straightener (ストレイテナー Sutoreitenā) is a Japanese alternative rock band. The band started out as a duo with Atsushi Horie (vocals/guitar) and Shinpei Nakayama (drums) in 1998. In October of the same year they released a single, "Traveling Gargoyle" from Toshiba EMI.
They are a critically acclaimed alternative/indie rock band in Japan. The group released their first mini-album, "Straighten It Up", to huge success. Straightener would go on to dominate the indies scene, and in 2003, they signed to EMI. Straightener exploded onto the mainstream scene, with their 2007 album "Linear" reaching number 7 on the Oricon charts. To date, Straightener regularly break the Oricon top 20, and are widely regarded as indie rock legends in their home country.

The band toured all over Japan during their Linear tour in 2007, as well as performing a joint tour in December 2013 with Asian Kung-Fu Generation to celebrate both bands' 10-year anniversaries. 10-FEET (テンフィート ) is a Japanese rock band formed in 1997 in Kyoto, signed to Universal Music Japan and managed by BADASS. Their music styles are mix of rock, punk, heavy metal, reggae, hip-hop, guitar pop and bossa nova.
Known for their powerful live shows, the Japanese indie trio 10-Feet plays eclectic, loosely punk-based music that includes influences ranging from ska and bossanova to hip-hop and metal. The band was established in 1997 in Kyoto by Takuma (vocals/guitar), Naoki (bass/vocals), and Kouichi (drums), all of them had previous experience playing in various-styled musical units -- Takuma joked about 10-Feet's formation being "the problem child of each band getting together."
They spent about three years tearing up local clubs before taking on Japan at large, and in 2000, 10-Feet kicked out a nameless debut demo and moved to Tokyo. They had no warm welcome there, though: the first singles "April Fool" and May I Help You? were released by the indie label Buddy in 2001, and for the following Japanese tour, the bandmembers had to live in their van.
Their debut album Springman came out in 2002 and was supported by a successful tour, but after that, 10-Feet still had to face a setback, returning to Kyoto and quitting their label. They started one on their own instead, giving it the fitting name Badass; its first release was their single "Nil?" in 2003. Soon, 10-Feet were able to sell out their first solo gig, performing at the famous Shibuya AX, and released their second album, Realife (2004), in Korea in 2007, thus beginning a steady Japanese release pattern.
4Rest followed in 2005 and Twister in 2006, along with a remix EP 7 Feet (2007) for which the band played its tunes with popular artists such as Minmi and Kj from Dragon Ash. In 2007, the band run into some spectacular problems. first Takuma came down with a throat illness, and then their comeback gig was canceled because Kyoto was hit by a typhoon, but 10-Feet still got back on track, releasing the album Vandalize in 2008 and playing not just Japan, but Taiwan and the States that year. The sixth full-length, Life Is Sweet, was delivered in 2009.
HEY-SMITH is a Japanese punk band from Osaka that has been quickly gaining attention in music scene over the past few years.
The band was formed in Toyonaka Osaka Japan in 2006.
Their first full-length album “14-Fourteen-” debuted No. 6 on the Oricon indie chart.
The band has toured with No Use For a Name, Less Than Jake on their Japanese tours and also performed on the “Rookie a go-go” stage at Fuji Rock Festival in July 2010.
The band’s long-awaited second full length album, “Free Your Mind,” was released in May 2011 and reached No.1 on the indie chart, and played its first-ever US show for “The Fest” in Gainesville, Florida in October 2011.
The record features Ted Jensen (Green Day, Metallica, Yellowcard) as a mastering engineer.
Currently the band often quickly sell out their shows in 500 to 800 capacity rooms.
Also, most recently, the band performed on the “White stage” at Fuji Rock Festival again this year and has released its first single called “Download Me If You can/Goodbye To Say Hello” in October 2012.
This summer the band plans to release the US version of “14-fourteen” that will combine their 1st EP (a smash hit in Japan) and 1st full length album together as a special edition via Hardline Entertainment.
Orange Range (オレンジレンジ , Orenji Renji) are a 5-member Japanese rock band, based in Okinawa, Japan. Formed in 2001, the band began with Spice Music and later signed with Sony Music Japan's gr8! records division in 2003. The band left gr8! records in 2010 to start their own label, Super Echo.
One of the top J-rock bands of the mid-2000s, Orange Range achieved fame and multiple animé credits invitations due to their ability to carefully interlace heavy riffs and commercial hip-hop elements in their predominantly pop/rock songs. They hail from Okinawa, the point of contact between Japanese and American culture thanks to the abundance of soldiers serving on the local U.S. military base, which has a profound effect on the local music scene; Orange Range is definitely proof of that even though the group formed in 2001 simply as a J-rock cover band. The group, made of high school buddies, soon moved on to original material, played local clubs and school events for a while, and secured a deal with an indie label. Their commercial debut single Michishirube only reached number 250 on the Oricon charts in 2002, but they still progressed, getting signed to a Sony Music sub-label, and scoring number 50 and then number five with their two subsequent singles.
The band's transfer to top league status was completed with the inclusion of their song "Viva Rock" into the credits of the popular animé series Naruto in 2003. Orange Range's debut album, 1st Contact, was delivered that same year, stopping just one place short of the top of the Oricon, and although it fell off the charts very fast, this was still a success -- and a sign of things to come, as after that the band embarked on a near-fantastic commercial rampage, scoring eight consequent number one singles. This was a record for the 2000s, and even the accusations of plagiarism against Locolotion did not stop Orange Range's advancement, which culminated in the second LP, musiQ, selling 2.6 million units in 2004, and in their songs getting picked for another big animé, Bleach, as well as numerous TV commercials.
The third album, Natural, sold 1.9 million copies in 2005, but Orange Range's winning streak ended the next year, when drummer Kitao Kazuhito, one of the founding members, left the band. Initially it was said to be due to health problems, but eventually the truth got out that it was creative differences -- more precisely, Kazuhito's aversion to the band's drift from rock to hip-hop. The group still managed to have their track "Champione" accepted as the official song of the 2006 Soccer World Cup, and then went on to have a 100,000-copy of their "limited" single Un Rock Star released; however, their fourth, self-titled album became their lowest-selling (only 347,000 units). Still, in 2007 they were back to form, writing songs for a J-drama, animé series Code Geass, and releasing a best-of double-CD that topped the charts just as their fifth studio album, Panic Fancy, did in 2008. ~ Alexey Eremenko, Rovi
