Junko Yano (Juniko no ya, December 25, 1979 -) is a Japanese singer-songwriter from Ino-machi, Kochi Prefecture.
She started live activity at the live house "Mexico City" in Kochi City after forming folk duo "Monaca" with Waka Okubo from 1997. In 1999, they moved the activity base to "the second floor of the live house shed" in the same Kochi city. In 2000, they provided "Roboco" songs for Stop Aids Campaign CM.
After releasing two voluntary production CDs as "Monaca", Junko Yano began her solo career in 2001 and won the grand prix at "Karuizawa Love Song Award 2003" on September 28, 2003. This became a trigger, and her major debut song "Terrotto" was the Grand Prix winning song in 2004. On March 10, 2005, she won "19th Japan Gold Disc Award" New Artist of the Year (Newcomer Award).
Once in 2005 the contract with major label was over, in 2006 she began indie activity. In 2007, she signed again with a major label, but that contract ended. Currently she is working on indies based on the "2nd floor of the theater shed" in Kochi City. In addition, the indie album is dealt with at the voluntary mail order site "Aoi Bird Shop" (out of print before 2003, limited only after 2006).
