DOHATSUTEN started up in Sapporo in 1984 and the current lineup was formed in 1988. Following a break they got back together in 1999. After having toured and released albums intensively DOHATSUTEN finally had a major break through with the album "Shoken to Kantsubaki" in Nov 2004. After a year of silence they released the album "LIFE BOWL" in Nov 2007, after which they went on a nation wide tour of Japan.

Their first DVD "for beautiful Fuwaku in LIFE" that contains the one-man tour final at Shibuya AX has just been released on Apr 23rd 2008. This year is the 20th anniversary for the current lineup, and next year the 25th of the band. With their original sound "JAPANESE R&E" they are pursuing their music full throttle, set to perform at several major festivals this year, including ARABAKI Rock Fes2008.

"We're the 'latest' rock band to perform at Nippon Budokan," said Naozumi Masuko, a 46-year-old vocalist for Dohatsuten.
A concert by Dohatsuten was scheduled for Jan. 12, 2014, at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan hall, but the path to the mecca of Japanese rock bands was anything but easy.
The four-member band came to Tokyo from Hokkaido and made their debut in 1991. However, by then, the rock band explosion had already fizzled out. "It was the worst timing for getting people to go and see a rock band at a live concert venue," Masuko said.
The members continued performing while working regular jobs, but for a while had to suspend their musical activities.
However, recently the band has grown in popularity, with lyrics that laugh away the bitterness of the past and melodies that tap into a wide range of music, including traditional enka songs.
In its own way, Flower Companyz also is staging a return. The four members of the band, which formed in 1989, all hail from Nagoya and are 43 years old. Although its contract with a major recording label was cancelled, the group made a comeback to the big stage in 2008.
The group's single "Beautiful Dreamer," which was released in January through Sony Music Associated Records Inc., was used as a theme song for a TV drama.
Both Dohatsuten and Flower Companyz have endured years of struggle, with the same members through it all. The reason for their popularity may be that they sing about the hardships of life, and their members have reached an age when these lyrics resonate with listeners.
Dohatsuten recently released a new CD, Dream Vikings, from Teichiku Entertainment, Inc. It includes a song based on its members' experience with other types of work--"Sagyogi de Rock, Sebiro de Roll" (Rock in working clothes, roll in business suits)--and another depicting the sorrow of a company employee with younger workers as his or her superiors.
"Rock 'n' roll has become rooted in the lives of adults. Now at age 46, I can express reality through singing rock 'n' roll," Masuko said.
The lyrics of Flower Companyz's songs, which describe the ups and downs of life, have struck a chord with people of the same generation, who find it natural to identify with such sentiments.
Rock 'n' roll festivals have been effective in helping these two bands have a crack at the big time. Almost every year they perform at the Arabaki Rock Festival in Miyagi Prefecture.

Kariyushi58 (かりゆし58 ) is a Japanese four-man pop group from Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, and headliner of the Utanohi music festival. Their sound contains many elements of traditional Okinawan folk music. The name is a portmanteau of the Okinawan かりゆし, meaning "harmony" or "happiness", and 58, the number of the local Japanese National Route, and just as that road crosses the sea and connects with Kyushu, the band wants their music to cross the sea and resound in Japan.

A mélange of rock, traditional Okinawan elements, and reggae influences, their music transmits an atmosphere of chirudai, or "sacred laziness," (an almost spiritual, relaxed mood) that Okinawans have identified as something that distinguishes them from mainland Japanese. Upbeat and celebratory in tone, it might be described as positive floating rock. Melody lines that pierce the heart and the vocalist's direct, earnest voice have been cited as the Kariyushi 58's greatest charms. According to their singer, the band's songs are fairly simple because musically, their goal is to express their message using the minimum necessary words and sounds, so the components of each song are carefully chosen and the unnecessary elements cut out.

Kariyushi 58 was formed in 2005 from the three high school friends Maekawa Shingo (vocals/bass), Shinya Yukihiro (guitar), and Nakamura Hiroki (drums). However, in 2008, they acquired a fourth member, Miyahira Naoki (guitar). In February 2006, the unknown band broke into the Japanese music scene with a release of seven songs, whose title track Koibito yo also appeared on the compilation CD Smart 10th & 200th ANNIVERSARY alongside famous mainland Japanese bands like THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT.

In July they released the single Anma, which means "mother" in their native language, in limited edition format only for Okinawa. To promote their CD, the band flew to Tokyo where they did their first one-man in mainland Japan. The exhibition was opened by Fuji Television on a specially installed stage and was a huge success. An Oricon news article reporting on the event referred to them as the "New Star" of Okinawa. In August, the single including Anma's PV went on sale throughout Japan.

After releasing the seven-track album Uji no uta, the band entered 2007, a year which would see the releases of the single Te to te, which ranked tenth on the Oricon Indies chart for nine consecutive weeks, and a thirteen-track album, Soro soro, Kariyushi, which ranked first on the same chart two weeks in a row.

The original title of this band is 'Omedetai Atama de Nani Yori,' or just 'Omedeta' for those of us lazy enough, but it seems to have been confirmed that Happy Heads NANIYORI is the band's official English title.

Their concept is 'happy-go-lucky metal,' which apparently translates to really weird genre-mashing about really random subjects, and their videos seem as far from serious as a band can get. Sekihan's voice ranges anywhere from 'little girl' to 'hyper-masculine' to 'dog whistle' to 'Maximum the Ryo-kun' depending on the song. They're doing relatively well after having debuted in 2016, largely in part to Sekihan's popularity as a vocalist, having been a very popular cover artist on Nico Nico Douga. The entire band is actually made up of popular cover artists from NND.

Their songs are about everything from everyday life, national variety program, Japanese / Western music, animation, games, children's songs, etc,.
