Mariana Pimenta

Mariana was born in Madeira Island, Portugal.

She began her musical activity at the music school Direção de serviços de Educação Artística e Multimédia, as a member of the childrens choir, directed by Zélia Gomes. Mariana then concluded the professional course in singing at the Music Conservatory of Madeira.

After finishing her Singing Bachelor and Master in Music Education at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, where she studied with António Salgado and Joaquina Ly, Mariana then specialized in Early Music Singing at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, in The Netherlands where she studied with Jill Feldman, Maria Acda Maas, Michael Chance and Peter Kooij, obtaining her Early Music Singing Master degree with the highest mark cum laude.

As a soloist Mariana has been singing oratorios from composers, such as G. F. Händel, J. D. Zelenka, J. A. Hasse, J.S. Bach, N. Jommelli, J. B. Lully, M. A. Cherpentier, J. Gilles, G. Fauré D.Buxtehude and A. Vivaldi.

In the opera field, Mariana will have her debut, singing the role of Teofane, from Ottone, by Händel, with Concerto Valiante. She also worked with Opera2Day, in the production Mariken in de tuin der lusten, composed by Calliope Tsoupaki, singing with the ensemble Capella Amsterdam, and also being an understudy of two roles in this opera.

Mariana works with some regularity in Madeira island, where she has sang with the Classical Orquestra of Madeira, namely opera arias from the XIX and XX century, performed solo recitals with the pianists Honor OHea and Aniko Harangi, sang with the Mandolin Orquestra of Madeira, and was a soloist within the Organ festival of Madeira, working with the Portuguese organist Edite Rocha.

Mariana is a soloist member of La Banda Ariosa, directed by Susanne Herre, singing Italian opera arias from the XVIII century that are rarely performed.
At the Tivoli Vredenburg, in Utrecht, Mariana sang Mozart Lieder with the Fortepianist Rogério Rodrigues, as a pre-concert of the Fortepianist Bart van Oort.

As an ensemble singer, she has sang with the Vocal Ensemble, directed by Vasco Negreiros, with whom she appeared at the Music Festival of Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, Joanna Musica, directed by Mário Trilha, Musica Temprana, directed by Adrián van der Spoel, with whom she recorded their last CD Missa Criolla, and also Dieci Voci, directed by Michael Chance.

As a choir member, Mariana is a freelance member of the Radio Choir of The Netherlands.

Mariana worked under the direction of names such as Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, Markus Stenz, Martin André, Christophe Coin, Kate Clark, Peter van Heyghen, Teun van der Zwart, Patrick Ayrton, Nicola Luisotti and Sigvards Klava, and has sung in different countries such as Portugal, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Germany and Ecuador.
