Goto Sumio (January 21, 1930 - October 18, 2016) is a painter of Japanese painting.
Born in Showa 5 (1930), Sekijuku-cho, Higashishikari-gun, Chiba Prefecture (present Noda city). In 1937 (1932) moved to Saitama prefecture Kitatsunosuke-gun Kanasugi village (now Matsushige Town). He received the Prime Minister Prize in 1986 and served as a professor at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, from 1988 to 1997. In 2006 received a small chapter of the Asahi Shimbun. He won the Japan Art Institute prize and incentive award in Heisei 28 (2016). A poet Chikako Yonekawa is a niece.
Died on September 18, 2016, due to sepsis. 86 year old death.
