Yasushi Hirano completed his vocal studies in his hometown Tokyo, before going on to obtain his postgraduate degree at the University of Vienna with honors in 2007. His first engagements led him to the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg as Emireno in Handels OTTONE among others.

In summer 2006, Hirano performed at the Salzburger Festspiele in Henzes world premiere of GOGO NO EIKO under the baton of Gerd Albrecht. In the 2007/08 season, Hirano was under contract at the Graz opera house, where he could be heard in roles such as Eremit and Samuel / UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, and Erster Handwerksbursche / WOZZECK. In 2008, he performed as Phorbas/Pan in the Austrian premiere of ALCIONE, an opera composed by Marin Marais under the baton of Lorenz Duftschmied (director: Ph. Harnoncourt). Later, he interpreted in the role of Voice of Neptune/IDOMENEO at the styriarte Festival, where he returned in 2011 to sing Micha/THE BARTERED BRIDE, both under Nikolaus Harnoncourt.

In the 2008/09 season, Hirano became a member of the Volksoper Wien, where he has interpreted the roles of Colline in LA BOHÈME, Alidoro in LA CENERENTOLA, Sparafucile in RIGOLETTO, Zuniga in CARMEN, Sprecher in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, and Bonzo in MADAMA BUTTERFLY.

In the year 2010, he debuted at the New National Theater in Tokyo, where he was grandly successful in the role of Geisterbote/DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN. In 2012, he returned as Leporello/DON GIOVANNI. He went to the Staatstheater Nürnberg and the Musikfestspiele Krakau for guest appearances.

Yasushi Hirano also has a successful career as a concert singer, taking him to Italy, Netherlands, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Germany. In March 2010, he sang with the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra as Mephisto in Schumanns FAUSTSZENEN, conducted by Dirk Kaftan. He has performed extensively at prestigious concert halls such as the Berliner Philharmonie, Wiener Konzerthaus, Smetana Hall in Prague, and the RAI Auditorium in Turin. He made his debut at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna in the baritone solo part of Beethovens 9th SYMPHONY, together with the Tonkünstler Orchestra conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

Yasushi Hiranos current and future engagements include appearances in Verdis ALZIRA (concert performance) under the baton of Gustav Kuhn and The King/AIDA at the New National Theater Tokyo.
