Starmarket was a Swedish band that formed in Piteå in 1994. Their self-titled debut album was one of the most celebrated albums in Sweden that year and Starmarket quickly became a part of the emerging indie- and hardcore scene in northern Sweden. Their way of mixing melancholic pop music and noisy indie rock with the attack and the energy of hardcore and punk was something fresh and in some ways, Starmarket evoked the wave of "emo" bands that would come a decade later.

The mini-album Calendar from 1996 and the furious Sundays Worst Enemy from 1997 further established their aggressive yet very sensual sound. Extensive touring in Europe, Japan, and North America helped to build their reputation as a fierce live act. In the US their albums got distribution through Deep Elm Records. Just like their role models in the American band Hüsker Dü, Starmarket also has the strength of having two different singers and songwriters to complement each other, Fredrik Brändström and Patrik Bergman.

The band's creative highlight came with Four Hours Light in 1999, perhaps their most cohesive and at the same time most experimental effort. Despite the fact that they never had a big commercial breakthrough, Starmarket will always have a special place in the heart for many people all over the world. On December 15, 2018, Starmarket will reunite for a concert at Debaser Strand in Stockholm. It's just over 13 years since they last played in Sweden so do not miss this unique opportunity!
