Funky Sueyoshi (Funky Eiyoshi, July 13, 1959 -) is a Japanese musician, drummer, writer, composer of Bakufu-Slump/X.Y.Z->A. His real name is Sueyoshi Sato. He is famous in Japan with the mega-hit Runner.
He wrote music for his band Bakufu-Slump, which brought them success to perform on Kohaku-Uta Gassen - the popular annual music program on Japanese national television NHK(it is considered a great honor for Japanese musicians when requested to perform in this program). After his success with Bakufu-Slump he restarted his music career in China, where he made an important contribution to the development of Chinese rock music and other musical genres for more than 20 years.
He also led the Rock Music project for North Korea, where he taught rock music to high school students in North Korea, inspired by the movie "School of Rock".
The 56-year-old drummer currently works in both Japan and China, playing drums on his performances and bands XYZ to A (metal band with Minoru Niihara), and Five Star Flag, as well as production and cooperation for other artists. In recent years, he has led his Solo Drum project for tours in China and Japan and is looking to expand further with other Asian countries.
Notable and outstanding awards of Funky Sueyoshi:
• 1996 his first solo album at the "Asian Drum Spirit" was released in China, in which he was awarded the "Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award".
• 1997 Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award: Best songwriting with Don Non Break My Heart for Li Huizhen
Japan Record Award: Best Asian Musician, for the Asian Drum Spirit album
• 2003: China Popular Music Contest: Best Original Song, for the song "Red Dance Shoes for Meng Meng
• 2004 Top ten Chinese Goold Songs Award with the song "Green Life" for Meng Meng
• 2006 Music director for the movie "Crazy Stone, whose recorded box office sales in China surpassed The Titanic.
