Backdrop Cinderella is a Japanese indie rock band active in Tokyo.

Formed in Ikebukuro in 2006, Backdrop Cinderella play an eccentric, fast-paced brand of punk rock that combines influences from ska, metal, Irish and folk music with some truly ridiculous lyrics. Energetic frontman Dendeke Ayumi dances, jumps and hangs upside down from the ceiling while he sings, and he is backed up by the more soulful voice of afro-hairstyled guitarist Toshima "Perry" Wataru and the high-pitched shouts of bassist Asahi Kyanako, which add an even more eclectic feel to their sound.

After over a decade together, Backdrop Cinderella have never changed members or deviated from their vision, bringing fans more wild and irreverent songs each year. The members have adopted the phrase unza unza to describe both their sound and the free and instinctive way that fans dance to it.

The original title of this band is 'Omedetai Atama de Nani Yori,' or just 'Omedeta' for those of us lazy enough, but it seems to have been confirmed that Happy Heads NANIYORI is the band's official English title.

Their concept is 'happy-go-lucky metal,' which apparently translates to really weird genre-mashing about really random subjects, and their videos seem as far from serious as a band can get. Sekihan's voice ranges anywhere from 'little girl' to 'hyper-masculine' to 'dog whistle' to 'Maximum the Ryo-kun' depending on the song. They're doing relatively well after having debuted in 2016, largely in part to Sekihan's popularity as a vocalist, having been a very popular cover artist on Nico Nico Douga. The entire band is actually made up of popular cover artists from NND.

ネクライトーキー (Necry Talkie) formed in 2017, the members consist of: もっさ (Mossa) [Vocal and Guitar], 朝日廉 (Asahi Ren) [Guitar], 藤田彩 (Fujita Aya) [Bass], カズマタケイ(Kazuma Takei) [Drums], and 中村 郁香 (Nakamura Ikuka) [Keys]. Still independent, the band are starting to see success in Japan and at the time of writing have released an album with a few singles.

Necry Talkies sound can be described in one word, fun! Driving the songs with a bouncy rhythm and a melodic vocal, it has an infectious fun vibe. This is only enhanced by the experimental nature of the rest of the instruments, creating a variation in their sound. The guitars on some track go for a traditional pop rock riffs, on others an alternative edgy pattern. The keys more interestingly tend to be more melodic, but the sound varies from a traditional electronic keyboard or a more synth sound. Interestingly this either adds an extra drive to the track or supports the rhythm. Overall it pushes them to either a heavier punk sound or the more pop rock, but there is still the consistency across the tracks. Its good to hear that so early on in their career they are giving themselves the room to develop their sound, and hopefully it is something they continue to do and refine.
