George Yamamoto is an enka singer/actor from Shimonoseki city of Yamaguchi prefecture.
In 1976, he debuted for the second time under his real name George Yamamoto from Pony Canyon.
In 1980, at the age of 30, he released the song Michinoku Hitori Tabi. The song did not become an instant hit, but at about a year after its release, the song was picked up on the show Yoru no Hit Studio of Fuji TV, where its popularity skyrocketed. At the end on 1981, Yamamoto won the long-seller award at the 23rd Japan Record Awards and made his first appearance at the 32nd NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen. The record sold 1.3 million copies total.
In 1997, he starred in the TV Asahi drama Abarenbou Shougun. Starred as the character Choujiro from the VII series to the 800th episode special.
In 1999, he transferred to Teichiku Entertainment and released his first single Hana mo Arashi mo in 2000.
In 2009, Yamamoto held his 35th Anniversary Memorial Concert at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya, and on the same year, held a party celebrating his 60-year-old anniversary.
