Born in December 1986, Tamura started the piano when he was three years old. He took piano lessons from Naohito Fukaya at age six, and later, at age 12, he started taking lessons from Claudio Soares. After graduating the Meiwa High School music department in the Aichi prefecture, he now studies at the University Mozarteum Salzburg under John Christoph Lieske.
After winning several prizes at the junior Competition in Japan, in 2002 he was the second prize winner in the B section of the Etlingen International Piano Competition. In August of the same year, he was the grand prix winner of the 26th annual PTNA Piano Competition. In November he was the winner of the 18th annual Takahiro Sonoda Piano Competition, receiving the Takahiro Sonoda Prize. And Tamura won 1st prize at the Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition in October, 2007.
He has also garnered scholarships from the Daiko Foundation and Ezoe Foundation in 2003.  He received the Idemitsu Music Prize in 2006.
His successful performances include the Mozarteum concert in Salzburg (1994), performing the Mozart K414 with the Chamber Orchestra in Warsaw, Poland (1997), four recitals in Brazil, and also participated in the Liszt Festival in Utrecht, Holland, and the Animato Festival in Cortot Hall, Paris.
After winning the 1st prize at the Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition, he was invited to perform recitals in France, Germany, Italy, Egypt, China and more.
Tamura also released his first debut album Hibiki Tamura Debut Album in 2004 and 2nd album in 2008.
