Craftwife is a Japanese electronic / pop group. Craftwife occupy a unique space somewhere between being software developers, a performance art collective and a Kraftwerk cosplay tribute band. Their mission statement is “We develop simple programs but make your life a bit happier”.
One of their apps, Wifechan, is an animated Japanese housewife who gives cooking tips. The other app is Craftwifi, which creates an ad hoc wifi network. They use an app called Remokon (a typically Japanese contraction of ‘remote control’) to control the open source sound design programme SuperCollider, allowing the band to perform iPhones remotely triggering sounds and samples.
There are no plans for a release of any kind. As Takeko Akamatsu, Craftwife’s main architect, told side-line.com: “I’m not interested in recorded media. The compact disc is an ancient medium; I prefer generative, realtime things. I don’t want to separate music and video from my body. Craftwife should be seen live onstage.”
There is no schedule or ticket right now.
