Yukari Saito was appointed Artistic Director of The Tokyo Ballet in 2015.
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Saito began her ballet training at the age of six with her mother who was a professional dancer. From the age of 16, she frequently visited Moscow to take lessons with Marina Semionova and Ekaterina Maximova. After gaining stage experience both within and outside Japan, she joined The Tokyo Ballet in 1987. Her poetic and dramatic expression was quickly rewarded.
While touring Europe with The Tokyo Ballet in 1988, Saito was chosen to dance the role of Lady Kaoyo, the heroine of Maurice Béjart's The Kabuki, and greatly impressed dance critics throughout Europe.
Her awards include the Hattori Chieko Award, the Tokyo Shimbun's Dance Arts Award, the Kanagawa Bunka Award and the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon awarded by the Japanese government.

Valery Ovsyanikov is a conductor graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory as a chorus master in 1985 and as an opera and symphony conductor in 1991 studying under Prof. Viktor Fedotov.
Since 1990 he has been Musical Director of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. He collaborated with many orchestras in Russia and abroad including St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, philharmonic orchestras of Rochester, Mexico City, Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo and other ensembles.
In 1997 he debuted as a guest conductor at the Covent Garden with La Bayadère. Since then he regularly performs in London conducting Royal Ballet productions, tours and Russian Ballet Icons Galas at the London Coliseum. His recordings of La Bayadère, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty with the Royal Ballet and Covent Garden Orchestra were released on DVD (2008–2009).
Ovsyanikov also performed as a guest conductor with the Finnish National Opera (since 1998), Bavarian State Opera (since 2001), Lithuanian National Opera (since 2005), Vienna State Opera (since 2014). Since 2010 he has been guest conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theatre.
His repertoire at the Mariinsky includes Giselle, Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, La Sylphide, La Bayadère, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, Le Sacre du printemps, The Fountain of Bakhchisarai, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Jewels, The Moor’s Pavane and other ballets.
