Shimanto river is one of the most famous rivers in Japan and possibly beyond boundary for its outstanding natural environment and exceptional water quality. The river for its entirety is certified as one of Japan's 100 remarkable waters by Ministry of Environment.
It is very difficult, if not impossible, to find appropriate adjectives correctly describing the massive natural offerings that this great river of 200 km length brings. So legitimate that the river has other recognitions such as "100 great water areas" and "100 remarkable forests of water sources".
Being given such a precious present from Mother Nature, Shimanto River offers tourists many leisure activities such as canoeing, tour boats, rafting,,, to enjoy the beauty of it.
One activity has to be mentioned is that Houseboat Cruising service. Tourists can experience passing under the chinkabashi ( a traditional bridge designed to be submerged during flooding) in a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat). The Yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat) is also recommended in the winter. Visitors will be able to relax and fully enjoy spectacular views on the extra clear Shimanto River of the winter.
"Shimanto no Ao" is a Yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat) tour in Shimanto city, popular for its course along the winding Shimanto River. Sit back and enjoy the panorama of the grand nature with no concrete banks, houses or roads in sight.
