Dai Sakakibara was born in 1967. Started playing the piano at the age of four.
Formed the band G-CLEF while attending Tokyo University of the Arts; opened up a field of instrumental fusion music based on his outstanding musical abilities and performance skills and produced a broad array of achievements, including seven tours across the country and a first-ever appearance by an instrumental band on Kohaku Utagassen, an annual year-end music show on NHK TV.
Sakakibara’s powerful style and superb sensitivities go beyond genre and continue to be demonstrated after the dissolution of his band, as seen in his stage support and arrangements for artists such as violinist Taro Hakase, the Gospellers, Mika Nakashima, Seiko Matsuda, and Kohei Otomo.
Sakakibara began full-fledged solo activities in 2001 and has released seven original albums to date. He has also worked on numerous soundtracks for movies and television dramas, including the score for NHK’s morning drama series “Fight” in 2005, the NTV drama “Bull Doctor” in 2011, and the theme music for “ANN News” on the TV Asahi network of broadcast affiliates.
In 2014 he released “Dear Classix”, an album of classical cover performances, and “Dear Love Songs”, an album of pop cover songs from King Records in July 2015.
