DJ Misoshiru & MC Gohan (October 25, 1989 -) is Japanese musician and MC born in Gotemba city, Shizuoka prefecture. She is a solo artist who made major debut in 2013.
Food plays a central part in Miso’s music, all her raps contain recipes for various Japanese dishes, from candied sweet potatoes to green peppers stuffed with beef. “I got the idea because when I would write down recipes, they would be time-consuming” she says. “It was really annoying, so I thought of making a song to remember recipes.”
Despite being in some bands when she was younger, she said she never really made her own music and didn’t listen to much hip-hop.
“I started listening to American artists such as Q-Tip, Pete Rock and Beck for inspiration,” she said. After watching her YouTube clips, an event promoter asked her to do a one-time show.
“At first, DJ Miso Shiru and MC Gohan was character, but for the live shows it was just me,” she says. Miso was surprised at the positive response which her audiences have slowly grown.
