Yukio Kitahara is a Japanese conductor. After graduating from Toho Gakuen University where he studied under prominent Japanese conductors including Tadaaki Otaka and Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Yukio Kitahara was offered the opportunity to work at the NHK Symphony Orchestra as a Conductor Trainee. He later continued his studies with Seiji Ozawa and Leonard Bernstein at Tangle wood.
Since 1989, Yukio Kitahara’s recognition has been growing to become a popular guest conductor with Japan’s prominent orchestra, such as NHK Symphony Orchestra. His NHK Symphony Orchestra performance of Shostakovich Symphony No. 11 was recorded live and later released on CD. In February 2001, Kitahara was invited to perform with Israel Northern Symphony Haifa as their guest conductor and had an outstanding success with them.
