Ken Karatsu is a Japanese cellist. He started playing piano at 4 years old and cello at 9 years old. He studied under Kenichiro Yasuda, Keiko Matsunami, Hakuro Mori.
After graduating from Music Toho Gakuen High School Music Institute in 1990, he graduated from the Royal Music College of the United Kingdom with top grades. While studying at the university, he won numerous awards.
After that, he went to the United States as a foreign trainee of Agency for Cultural Affairs and completed the master's program of New England Conservatory with honor. In 1998, at the Casals Hall, he held a Japanese debut recital and the pattern was broadcasted on CS Supercar Classic TV on CS SKY Perfume. Since then, he has performed recitals at major halls such as Oji Hall, Tsuda Hall and Toppan Hall, and has also appeared on NHK-FM "famous recital", Since 2002, he has also been active as a public hall Music Revitalization Project Registered artist for Regional Creation. He has been co-performing with domestic and foreign top artists such as Keiko Urushihara, Ikuyo Nakamichi, Kazuno Shimizu, Ichiro Nodaira and Haruko Yokokawa.
In addition, he formed a trio with Miyuki Washimiya and Kenta Matsumi, and has performed concerts throughout the country.
In the autumn of 2007, he released first recording "Bridge, Barber: Cello · Sonata" and it was chosen highly valued in "Musical Contemporary" magazines. Currently he is teaching at various music festivals as well as being a member of the Toho Gakuen University music department.
