Ayako Takagi is a highly talented flutist who is currently drawing considerable attention with her impeccable technique, characteristic tone and unlimited musicality.

Without being limited to the framework of a conventional classical musician, she has appeared in television and radio programs as well as television commercials, receiving attention from numerous different fields.

Ayako Takagi was born in Toyota, Aichi prefecture, Japan. She started playing piano at the age of three, and flute at the age of eight. She studied at the Music High School attached to Tokyo University of the Arts, and subsequently at Tokyo University of the Arts, where she concluded an undergraduate and a master program. She studied flute under Chie Nishimura, Kazuyoshi Hashimoto, Gerard Noack, Tetsuya Kosaka, Narumi Murakami, Chang-Kook Kim, Paul Meisen and chamber music under Koji Okazaki.

Her talent has been highly appreciated since her student days, winning her numerous competitions and awards: first prize at Mainichi Music Competition for Students hosted by Mainichi Newspaper (1995), "Encouragement Award" from Kobe International Flute Competition (1997), a scholarship from NTT Docomo, "Ataka award" from Tokyo University of the Arts (1997), first prize at Takarazuka Vega Contest (1999), first prize and "Audience Award" at Japan Flute Convention Competition (1999), first prize (flute division) and "Special Award" at 17th Japan Wind Instrument Competition (2000), first prize (flute division) at 70th Japan Music Competition (2001), "Fresh Artist Award" from Nippon Steel Corporation Music Award (2001), third prize at Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition (2005), and third prize at the Kobe International Flute Competition(2005).

She started her carrier while still in college. She has performed with I Solisti Filarmonici Italiani, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, ensemble Archi di Milano, St. Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra as well as principal orchestras in Japan. In autumn 2004, she made her first debut in Paris performing with Ensemble orchestral de Paris, and following Japanese tour also marked a success. She also performed numerous recitals and chamber music actively in various locations. In autumn 2010, she gave her 10th debut anniversary recital.

Ayako Takagi's recording carrier is also active. She released two debut CDs "Sicilian, flute masterpiece collection" and "Plays YUMING on flute" in March 2003. Subsequently she released "Gentle Dreams-Flute music of the 20th century" and "I need to be in love - plays Carpenters" together, followed by "Southern Thoughts"- a collection of South American pieces from classic to Bossa Nova; "Air Blue-A blue Margin" a collection of flute solos from 17th century to contemporary music. The first Concertos Album "Italia" was recorded with I Solisti Filarmonici Italiani in Italy, "Earth": a collection of masterpieces for flute with themes from earth, nature and breath of life, "Towerd the sea" a duo album with the guitarist Shinich Fukuda. Her CDs have been highly appreciated as well as leaving excellent sales results. In 2010, she released her 10th anniversary CD "The Best" and "Mozart: Concertos for flute and Orchestra" and are being well received.

Currently she is an associate professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts and a guest professor at Senzoku Gakuen University, part-time lecture at Nihon University College of Arts and Musashino Academia Musicae.
