Akira Shigeyama is a Kyogen actor. He was born in June 12 1952.
He started his career as a Kyogen actor at the age of 3 when he performed the main character in the play "Iroha". Since the debut, he performed "Sanbasou", "Tsuri gitsune (Fishing fox)" and "Hanako" which require special teaching to play.
In 1976, Hanagata Kyogen Club was established. He organizes the club with his cousin Masayoshi (now Sensaku), Shingo (now Shime).
In addition to classical Kyogen, he has been focusing on popularization of Kyogen by performing in new type of Kyogen including "Mokuryu Urushi" (written by Junji Kinoshita), SF Kyogen "Kitsune to Uchujin (Fox and Alien)" (written by Sakyo Komatsu), "Shinigami (Death God)" (written by Masanori Hoashi), and restoration for the first time in 1000 years "Kesakyu" (written by Shokichi Oda). He also participated in TV, radio, new theater, and experimental theater under the influence of a versatile theater person, his father - Sennojyo.
He also organizes "NOHO (Noh act) Theater Company" with American Jonah Salz. He performs abroad such as Beckett Yeats' absurd drama, English Kyogen etc.
