CALMERA is a high-energy, 8-member instrumental jazz band from Osaka whose concerts create the ultimate fans. Band leader is Goushi Nishizaki with wild-colored hair and engaging personality take over the stage as he teaches the audience fun phrases and gets everybody dancing during the performance.
Popular in live houses and outdoor festivals throughout Japan, CALMERA performs over 200 concerts a year, presenting a wide repertoires that includes jazz, ska, Japanese anime covers, J-Pop, Latin, and rock music. Appearances include Summer Sonic, Blue Note Tokyo, Daegu International Jazz Festival (Korea), and six consecutive performances at Sunset Live, Kyushu’s most popular outdoor music festival.
Releasing several indie albums and two major-label from Warner Music Japan, CALMERA has built a solid, dedicated following in Japan. The band’s single, “The dog ran away”, was chosen to represent Sony’s “h.ear × WALKMAN” campaign (HiRes Walkman / Sony Marketing Japan Inc.), and their recent album REAL KICKS (2016) debuted in the Top 10 Oricon Weekly Indies Album Chart.
CALMERA also supports youth community music programs several times a year with CAL-OKE (CALMERA + “Orchestra”) workshops, where they lead students to learn about music and play new instruments in a live concert after only three days.
CALMERA’s ninth studio album, JAZZY GOLD CHAIR, was released in November 2017, and included a collaboration with famed violinist Koichiro Muroya (Attack on Titan, KILL la KILL, Mobile Suit Gundam UC) and a newly arranged CALMERA-style cover of the Spider-Man theme.
