Hikone Castle Is an Edo castle in Hikone City , Shiga Prefecture , Japan . This is considered the most important historical building in Shiga. Hikone is one of 12 Japanese castles with original ruins, and one of the five castles is listed as a national treasure.

Hikone Castle originated in 1603 when Ii Naokatsu, the son of the former daimyo Ii Naomasa, ordered it to be built.
