Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, as well as the nation’s tourist hot-spot for all things traditional and cultural. For the third year consecutive since its inauguration in 2016, the Kyoto Nippon Festival – an autumn event taking place at the 1000-year-old Kitano Tenmangu-Shrine located at the northwestern region of the ancient city – will be happening this year from 6 October 2018 to 2 December 2018.
Besides promoting the historical and traditional cultural beauties of Japan, the other aim of the Kyoto Nippon Festival (aka “KNF”) is also to promote Kyoto as an ancient city in modern times, and as such, KNF 2018’s theme is ‘Fusion’ – where traditions meets pop-culture in a perfect balance of historical and modern beauty!
Other than artworks exhibitions and demonstration sessions of traditional crafts of Japan like Kyoto silk-dyeing and weaving, flower arrangement, etc. to tease visual aesthetics, visitors may also be in for a gastronomical treat of experiencing traditional Kyoto kaiseki cooking at the event. For fans of pop-cultural however, the biggest aspect of the Festival to look forward to is the KNF 2018’s collaboration feature with popular idol group Nogizaka46; as well as with popular browser and mobile game “Touken Ranbu -Online-“!
Nogizaka46 x traditional crafts collab. (1)

Nogizaka46 x traditional crafts collab. (2)

Three of the idol group’s members – Hina Kawago, Reika Sakurai and Mizuki Yamashita will also show off their skills in the traditional craft in a public demonstration!
Nogizaka46 x Kyoto Kitcho Kaiseki Restaurant (pop-up)
There is a Japanese proverbial saying that the “autumn season is a time for good food” – and the KNF 2018 proves this true by collaborating with Kyoto’s age-old Japanese kaiseki cuisine restaurant, Arashiyama’s ‘Kyoto Kitcho’, which will be doing a special featured pop-up restaurant/eatery within the Kitano Tenmangu-Shrine’s premises during the span of the Festival. Fans of Nogizaka46 may also be prepared to be delighted with the special menu that Manatsu Akimoto created together with the restaurant chefs!
KNF 2018 x “Touken Ranbu -Online-” feat. ‘Higekiri’ (Japanese sword)
The treasured sword ‘Higekiri’ of the historical Genji Clan from the Heian Era is archived under the care of the Kitano Tenmangu-Shrine’s Treasure Hall. This ancient katana is also appointed as an ‘Important Cultural Artefact’ by the Japanese Agency of Culture Affairs (under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Science and Technology). With the popularity of browser and mobile game “Touken Ranbu -Online-” developed by Nitroplus and distributed by DMM Games where ‘Higekiri’ is one of the most popular and sought-after anthromorphised ‘sword warriors’, the Shrine archives has been periodically organising exhibitions within their own Treasure Hall since early-2017 for this prized historical sword. The 8th Round of the “Treasured Katana Exhibition” happen to coincide with the duration of KNF 2018, and fans (of the game, or of Higekiri the character) may get to view this prized artefact up-close!
Lastly, fans and visitors to the KNF 2018 may also be delighted to know that the Festival has a special range of events-official original and collaboration goods lined-up for sales so visitors may bring back some souvenirs of the event. Let’s take a look at some of the line-up!

From the 1960 's, a series of animated works were made by Disney, and it contributed greatly to the recognition of the work. Milne has already undergone career as a deputy editor in satirical magazine "Punch" and a humorist who is active in the same magazine. In 1924, children's song collection "Kokitachi was very tasty" (When We Were Very Young) had received high praise. This collection of children's songs is a collection of nursery rhymes made for his son Christopher Robin Milne who was 3 years old at the time, and his teddy bear, which later became a "Pooh", was also named "Edward Bear" and "Teddy · Bear "(The first appearance of this poem is" Punch "February 1924). Folding fans became more than implements used in religious rituals or in everyday life. Highly portable, they were accessories that people could carry as their mood, location, and the season dictated. They became the most familiar work of art, an object of beauty that anyone, regardless of status, could enjoy anywhere and anytime. Folding fans with waka poems or paintings on them became popular choices for gift exchanges, and circulated in large volumes. They also played an important role as a communication tool linking person to person.
Folding fans are also connected to other forms of art, including folding screens and picture scrolls, and also to crafts, including weaving and dyeing. Created in immense variety, folding fans, interacting with every genre and every school of art, contained the essence of beauty, of art that Japanese sought.
This exhibition introduces the beautiful world of the folding fan, so loved by the Japanese, in terms of a broad range of periods and perspectives. Just as the fan in your hand changes its appearance every time it flutters, the multifaceted world of the folding fan is delightfully varied.
In this exhibition, for those who can not easily go on such a pilgrimage trip, we carried out "sand stamping" collecting the hanging axis of the temples of the eight ty eight locations in Shikoku.
It is an event that you can easily experience your pilgrimage experience in a day.
In addition, sale of pilgrimage supplies and Shikoku products, as well as photo exhibitions of 88 places will be held.

Taro Hakase (葉加瀬 太郎 , Hakase Tarō, born January 23, 1968 in Suita, Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese musician who specialises as a violinist and composer.
Hakase was involved in a Japanese band called Kryzler & Kompany which formed while he was in college. He played the violin, while Tsuneyoshi Saito played keyboards, and Yoshinobu Takeshita played bass. Their first eponymous album was released in September 1990 and sold 74,000 copies. Their second, Kryzler And Company #, sold over 81,000 copies. Steve McClure of Billboard wrote that they have become "Japan's unlikeliest pop idols, attracting hordes of screaming fans, a far cry from the decorum and reserve usually shown by Japan's classical music audiences." The band provided the music for Celine Dion's single "To Love You More" which was recorded as the theme song for the Japanese drama Koibito Yo (My Dear Lover). The song reached number one on Billboard Japan. He then joined Dion on her nationwide promotional tour making television appearances and performed the song during her 1996–1997 Falling into You Tour and her 1998–1999 Let's Talk About Love Tour as guest violinist. When Dion went on hiatus to have her son, Hakase pursued a solo career, and Kryzler & Kompany disbanded after having produced 11 albums.
In 2006, to celebrate 10 years of his success, Hakase reunited with Dion in Las Vegas, Nevada during a performance of her show A New Day... to perform "To Love You More".
He performed "Addio monti (I promessi sposi)" on the 2007 Ennio Morricone tribute album We All Love Ennio Morricone, and also co-composed the album Symphonic Poem "Hope" with Yuji Toriyama, a collection of themes used in promotional videos for Final Fantasy XII.
In his native Japan, his song "Another Sky" is All Nippon Airways' theme song [1], while "Color Your Life" is Shinsei Bank's theme song [2].
On July 10, 2013, it was announced that he featured in D-Lite (Daesung) from BIGBANG's song "I Love You".
On May 20, 2014, he was featured in Namie Amuro's song CAN YOU CELEBRATE?, the song was rerecorded with a new vocals and new music video
