Group Sounds, often abbreviated as G.S. or G-Sound, is a genre of Japanese rock music which became popular in the mid to late 1960s and initiated the fusion of Japanese kayōkyoku music and Western rock music. Their music production techniques were regarded as playing a pioneering role in modern Japanese popular music.
Fōku (folk) and new music became famous in Japan in the 1970s, but new rock bands survived as new rock in Japanese underground music. The origin of modern Japanese rock music was usually regarded as new rock. Videos of New Rock bands' concerts were very rare.

History
The predecessor was the four-man folk group Folk-Treckers (Hisashi Komatsu, Takao Nanzato, Osamu Mori, Ayako Yamaiwa). In '65, Yamaiwa from this group withdrew to join PPM followers such as Komuro . To the remaining three, Yutaka Hayashi and Masahiro Koseki (composer , eldest son of Hiroki Koseki ) joined, and were formed in June 1966 . The group was named after being indulged in Greenwich Village, a holy place in Fork , New York . Also, unlike the popular college fork at that time, the band organization incorporating electric guitars , drums, and 12-string acoustic guitars was novel and brand new.
They started by playing every Saturday at the folk cafe "Village" in Shibata-muracho (now Nishi Shinbashi ). Eventually Country singer Keiichi Teramoto of production in 1966 in October, Nippon Columbia (less than Columbia) of the CBS Columbia label made his debut in the first single "dark sandy beach" than (Koseki is to leave before the sale, initial Both have participated in the recording of the two singles of).
At the beginning, Horipro requested the Toshiba Music Industry (now: Universal Music Joint Company label Virgin Records ) to blow the song, but it was rejected by the director who showed irritability because of the lack of harmony, and then brought it to Columbia. It passed. (Conversely, The Wild Ones was turned down by Columbia and contracted with Toshiba Records as a result.) Their debut song was a folk rock style popular in the United States, but it did not lead to a hit. The next single, “In Search of You,” will be released in February 1967, but as with the previous album, the result will be unexplored. While the members were depressed, Nanzato swearing to graduate from high school because of the political movement, the woods that had been allowed to do music activities by his father reached a failure in three years, and the two left the group.
Komatsu and Hayashi, who had been left without replacement members, decided to dissolve, and went around the university in Tokyo, and had a spare time after the band that was a member of the students of Seikei University was dissolved. In addition , although he graduated from Meiji University but did not find a job, Hori pro scouted Kazuo Sakurai who was hanging out under his father who was a movie producer (Hideo Sakurai). Komatsu visited the Seijo University of her alma mater with Hayashi around Hayashi in May, and in the club room of the light music club, she extended her hair and found a innocent figure of a clean watering husband. After entering university, he went through ventures in a light music club after entering university , and woke up to the fun of singing in a Beatles style band.
However, the Shimizu band broke up in the third grade. Shimizu's guitar skills and singing ability are reasonable, and the members greet the members if they should be clean. They started Karuizawa training camp on a one-week schedule from late June and worked hard to practice the instruments and songs. After the training camp, They visited Columbia immediately. And Kyohei Tsutsumi "composer rosy clouds ", the member becomes the song of the Blue Comets style you want, became just waiting for the announcement . In this way , in August 1967, as a Village Singers, announced "Rose-colored Clouds". The goodness and sound of Tsuzumi's songs were successful, and they appeared for 10 weeks continuously on Fuji TV 's music program "Hit Flash", recording a major hit of a nominal 600,000 pieces.
Those who became popular GS subsequently released "Because I like" in November, the sound that brings out the keyboard play of Shimizu's vocal and Koike who have the moody voice quality will call synergy effect. The following day , a big hit "Moon with a flax-colored hair" was released in February 1968, and it became a work that could be called their pronoun along with a "rose-colored cloud". The first album “Kiriko no Kimiko of Group Sounds” was released in March, and it is worth noting that the new singles reprint the two singles released at the time of the former member as new members. In addition, regular appearances on TBS "It's 7 o'clock! Jump out !!" begins, and the film starring the movie "The Lemon of the Rainbow" and the single with the same name in August will be Ozaki It was released from Shochiku in a co-star with Nana .
Who played in the same era The Tigers , Tempters , Ox and GS of wild image in the long-haired, such as, as the biggest reason that they are different, salaried style of short hair, and honor student specific appearance, middle-class basis, or upstream manner Image is included. August 7 th single, "until the star is full" was released in Hyogo Prefecture, Takarazuka City of Takarazuka Grand Theater at the recital held, Dzukagaru play with. This was the first as a GS. In autumn, the first CBS-Sony Records (current: Sony Music Labels ) transfer single " Obiha to Chikise " was launched in November, but there is also a decline in the GS boom, this song Since then the group's popularity begins to decline.
In 1969 , the base of the little things to leave, participated Eiji Tsunoda than "barefoot Love" released the same year in August, as a hobby of the director than this time mood songs were being of .
The last album "Koi to Women and Musei Cry" released in June 1970 is known as a complete Shimizu solo, but it was released in the previous year with a content that was not an overstatement and recorded a big hit " Nagasaki was still raining today " is Hiroshi Uchiyamada and cool-Five is a mood song itself was cryptic. After 1969, they were forced to take a mood song line, but with the last single “Eternally Here” released in January 1971, they ended with a sound reminiscent of the heyday village.
Finally the management was abandoned unilaterally from Horipro which is the affiliation office , the member worries whether it will continue to work in the Tonkatsuya in Yotsuya , and after playing in the beer garden in Nagoya , finally it will be June 1971 Therefore it broke up.
After 31 years, " the girl with flaxen hair " was revived by Hitomi Shimatani and became known to the younger generation. Taking advantage of that , it recollected in 2002 and appeared on NHK " Melody of Memories ". After that the live activity resumed. Sakurai, who had left the school in 1969, has also returned.
