The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (Tōkyō Firuhāmonī Kōkyō Gakudan) is recognized as the oldest classical orchestra in Japan, having been founded in Nagoya in 1911. It moved to Tokyo in 1938 and has some 166 members as of 2005.

In 2011, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its 100th anniversary as Japans first symphony orchestra. With about 130 musicians, TPO performs both symphonies and operas regularly. TPO is proud to have appointed Maestro Myung-Whun Chung, who has been conducting TPO since 2001, as Honorary Music Director, Maestro Andrea Battistoni as Chief Conductor and Maestro Mikhail Pletnev as Special Guest Conductor.

TPO has established its world-class reputation through its subscription concert series, regular opera and ballet assignments at the New National Theatre, and a full, ever in-demand agenda around Japan and the world, including broadcasting with NHK Broadcasting Corporation, various educational programs, and tours abroad. The general foundation corporation Maki Asa Balee (Masaki Asami ballet) is a ballet group in Nakano-ku, Tokyo.

Established in 1956, its predecessor is with Tachibana Bare Laboratory established in 1933 by Tachibana Akiko. The general manager, Mr. Maki Asa from 1971 to 1994, Kyoso Mitani from 1994 to the present. Tokyo City Ballet Company was founded in 1968 by the collaboration of Goro Arima, Taneo Ishida, Michio Uchida, Hiroshi Hashimoto, and Tatsuo Noguchi. Since then more than 110 pieces have been performed starting from the classical ballet such as "Swan Lake" and "Giselle" to the reproduction pieces "Carmen""Romeo and Juliet" and other original contemporary repertoire. Tokyo New City Orchestra was founded in 1990 with Akira Naito as music director / permanent conductor. The first regular concert was held at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and the performance of the orchestra began.
