Miyazawa Kenji (1896–1933) was a poet and fairy tale writer who created a new world in Japanese literature. In 1896, Kenji was born in a merchant's house that runs pawn shops and old clothes, and grew up in the harsh environment of crop failure and years of famine. In 1914, when he graduated from Iwate Prefectural Morioka High School, he read the "Fahua Sutra" and was deeply touched by it. As a result, he became a devout Fahua believer.

In 1920, he joined the National Day of the Religion, the organization based on the "Fahua Sutra", and was inspired by the unity of religion and art, and began to concentrate on creative activities. The doctrine of "Fa Hua Jing" is the foundation of Miyazawa's literary creation, and he is therefore known as a religious thinker.
