The Gwangju Symphony Orchestra (GSO) has played a pivotal role in continuing the legacy of Gwangju as a city of art and culture, a title Gwangju has enjoyed since old times when, through art and learning, it achieved a consummation of the so-called culture of the southern provinces. Since the orchestras founding in 1976, it has contributed to the development of the regions art and culture and strived to enrich the cultural lives of the citizens. Their conviction saw fruit seven years later when the civic symphony grew into the GSO in July 1976. Musicians in the Gwangju area voluntarily formed a private orchestra in 1969 called Gwangju Civic Symphony and began showcasing symphonic repertoires.

In rock and pop ensembles, usually called rock bands or pop bands, there are usually guitars and keyboards (piano, electric piano, Hammond organ, synthesizer, etc.

In jazz ensembles or combos, the instruments typically include wind instruments (one or more saxophones, trumpets, etc. Conductors are also used in jazz big bands and in some very large rock or pop ensembles (e.g., a rock concert that includes a string section, a horn section and a choir which are accompanying a rock band's performance). Tokyo

Tokyo (Japanese: [toːkjoː] , English /ˈ t oʊ k i . oʊ / ), officially Tokyo Metropolis, is the capital of Japan and one of its 47 prefectures. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府 , Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市 , Tōkyō-shi) .
