1966年にミュージカルファミリーとして設立。最初の公演は3びきのこぶたであった。1975年に現在の名称に変更して以降、ぬいぐるみ俳優養成所の開設、国際奨学会の設立、数々の海外公演を成功させるなど、堅調に実績を重ねている。
700名以上の俳優・経営350人、技術350人のスタッフにより、東京・大阪・名古屋・札幌に設置した専用劇場を中心に年間3,000ステージ超を上演（興行）する。年間観客動員数はリピーターを含めて約300万人。1970年代以降、海外ミュージカル作品のロングラン上演を通じて日本にミュージカルを定着させるのに大きな役割を果たした。
海外ミュージカルの輸入によらない、浅利慶太がプロデュースを手がけて制作する「劇団四季オリジナルミュージカル」や「劇団四季ファミリーミュージカル」も人気がある。また、 JR東日本アートセンター自由劇場開業後は従前のストレートプレイの上演も増加している。
1953年（昭和28年）7月14日に劇団七曜会から分裂する形で設立。当初は、東京大学文学部仏文科の学生（米村晰ら）と慶應義塾大学文学部仏文科の学生（浅利慶太・日下武史ら）を中心として10人で結成した学生演劇集団であった。
最初からミュージカル劇団を志向していたわけではなく、設立からかなり長い期間の間はストレートプレイ専門の劇団だった。これは、当時新劇界を席巻していたイデオロギー優先で演劇的な面白さを欠いた潮流に懸念を抱いた創立者たちが、演劇そのものの面白さを追求する劇団として創設したこととも関連している。主にジャン・ジロドゥやジャン・アヌイらフランス文学作家の書いた戯曲を演じていた。劇団の精神的指導者は創立メンバーにフランス演劇を教えた加藤道夫であるが、加藤は劇団四季の成立直前に自殺してしまう。

坂田 明（さかた あきら、1945年2月21日 - ）は、日本のジャズサックス奏者、タレント、俳優。ミジンコ研究家としても知られている。
息子もミュージシャンで、元・バンド「Polaris」のドラム担当の坂田学。
広島県呉市広長浜生まれ。広島大学水畜産学部水産学科卒業後、1969年に上京し「細胞分裂」を結成。1972年から1979年にかけて山下洋輔トリオに参加し、1979年末まで在籍。激しいサックス演奏で知られるようになる。同トリオを脱退後は、さまざまなグループの結成・解体を繰り返し、2000年から「坂田明mii（みい）」を中心に活動。現在は「坂田明Trio」、「坂田明&chikamorachi」でのレギュラーユニットの活動と同時に、内外のミュージシャンとのフリー・セッションを行なっている。
広島大学水畜産学部水産学科（現・生物生産学部）の卒業生であり、2003年には長年にわたるミジンコの研究・普及活動が認められ、日本プランクトン学会から特別表彰された。2007年には東京薬科大学生命科学部客員教授に就任した。
山下洋輔、赤塚不二夫、タモリらのお友達としても活躍、ハナモゲラ語の元祖でもある。1982年のセイコー腕時計「ハイブリッド」のテレビCMのユニークなパフォーマンスで一気に有名になった。商品名をもじった「ハイブリッド人間」は、当時の流行語となり、その代表ともいわれた。CMは1990年代にテイジン、2005年に、KINCHOのゴキブリ用殺虫剤「コックローチ」で輪島功一と共に学ラン姿で出演している。

Musical theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical – humor, pathos, love, anger – are communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole. Although musical theatre overlaps with other theatrical forms like opera and dance, it may be distinguished by the equal importance given to the music as compared with the dialogue, movement and other elements. Since the early 20th century, musical theatre stage works have generally been called, simply, musicals.

山崎 育三郎（やまざき いくさぶろう、1986年1月18日 - ）は、日本のミュージカル俳優、歌手である。東京都出身。研音所属。StarSのメンバー。
1997年、全国童謡コンクールにて審査員特別賞を受賞。1998年、12歳で初めてアルゴミュージカルに主演。以後、変声期を迎えるまで舞台・テレビなどに出演。
2001年4月、東邦音楽大学附属東邦高等学校声楽科に入学。2002年7月、アメリカ合衆国ミズーリ州にあるノースカントリー・ハイスクールへ語学留学。2003年5月、全米高校生クラシック声楽コンクールのミズーリ州大会にて上位入賞、同年年6月に帰国し同年9月より高校2年生2学期開始。

2007年、日本上演20周年の『レ・ミゼラブル』でマリウス役として正式デビュー。2007年11月14日、ボーカルグループESCOLTAのメンバーとしてアルバム『愛の流星群』でメジャーデビュー、2008年12月末までESCOLTAに所属。2008年、初主演映画『夏休みのような1ヵ月』が公開。2009年、TBSテレビ『さんまのSUPERからくりTV』内の企画バンド「サザエオールスターズ」にボーカリストとして加入。2009年12月、舞台『パッチギ!』で初のストレートプレイ出演。

THE CONVOY（ザ・コンボイ）は、日本のエンタテインメント集団。「走り出したら止まらない」を合言葉とし、各地で様々なパフォーマンス・ショーを行っている。
1986年、赤坂のTap Tipsにて、当時、そこの従業員だった瀬下尚人、石坂勇と共に、今村ねずみを中心に結成された。作・構成・演出は、主宰である今村ねずみが、全てを手掛けている。

The Takarazuka Revue is a Japanese all-female musical theater troupe based in Takarazuka, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. Women play all roles in lavish, Broadway-style productions of Western-style musicals, and sometimes stories adapted from shōjo manga and Japanese folktales. The company is a division of the Hankyu Railway company; all members of the troupe are employed by the company.
The Takarazuka Revue's members presently comprise five troupes—Flower, Moon, Snow, Star and Cosmos—and the Senka, or "Superior Members." Each performance is conducted by one of these groups.
Each troupe has a leading pair of actors: the "top star" as the best otoko yaku and the "top musume yaku" playing alongside the top star. The plots of many performances develop around this top pair, who in combination with the enticing traits of the troupe's other members create a uniquely captivating theatrical production.

上田 久美子（うえだ くみこ）は、宝塚歌劇団所属の演出家。
奈良県天理市出身。
京都大学文学部卒業後2年間の製薬会社勤務を経て、2006年に宝塚歌劇団に演出助手として入団。
2013年、月組バウホール公演『月雲の皇子 -衣通姫伝説より-』で演出家デビュー。当初の公演はバウホール公演のみだったが、好評のため天王洲銀河劇場にて東上再演を果たした。
2014年に上演された、宙組シアタードラマシティ公演『翼ある人びと - ブラームスとクララ・シューマン -』が、第18回鶴屋南北戯曲賞の最終候補に残った。
2015年、雪組公演『星逢一夜』で大劇場演出デビューし、本作で第23回読売演劇大賞・優秀演出家賞を受賞した。
2018年、『BADDY(バッディ) -悪党(ヤツ)は月からやって来る-』で初めて大劇場作品のショー演出を手がけた。
中村 暁（なかむら さとる、1954年 - ）は、宝塚歌劇団に所属する演出家。大阪府大阪市出身。
芝居やショー、ディナーショーやTCAスペシャルなどのイベントの演出も手掛けている。芝居では『心の旅路』世界初のミュージカル化をはじめ、『黄金のファラオ』『マノン』などが代表作。また、自身12年振りの新作ショーである、2008年の雪組公演『ミロワール』は、同年の雪組全国ツアーでも再演された。近年は、眼病のため一線を退いている柴田侑宏作品の再演の演出も多く担当している。
1977年、同志社大学文学部美学芸術学専攻を卒業後に宝塚歌劇団に入団。
1985年に月組バウホール公演『スウィート・リトル・ロックンロール』で演出家デビュー。
1990年に雪組『黄昏色のハーフムーン』で初の大劇場公演を担当。

Joshua Strickland (born October 23, 1983) is an American singer and actor from Charleston, South Carolina. He attended the College of Charleston, where he studied voice with Deanna McBroom. During 5th grade Josh was "discovered" by teacher and Producer/Founder/CEO of The Charleston Youth Company, Chuck Long. He performed with this company for 8 years receiving drama, voice, and dance instruction. This company has been serving the talented students since 1978.
Strickland appeared on season 2 of Fox TV's American Idol and in March 2007 as himself on All My Children.
He starred as Tarzan in Disney's production of Tarzan on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
The production's run ended after some 14 months and Strickland performed the final show along with the rest of the original cast, minus Shuler Hensley, who had left the production to work on the new Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein and was replaced by Rob Evan. The final performance was on July 8, 2007.
In 2009, Strickland became an original cast member of Peepshow in Las Vegas. He has befriended his costar Holly Madison and could be seen regularly in her television reality show Holly's World. He is also a friend of Laura Croft, Miss July 2008 Playboy Playmate as well as stage Actress/Dancer Angel Porrino.
On February 16, 2011, Strickland debuted his first ever solo artist single on iTunes titled "Report to the Floor." 屋敷華・・・桐朋学園大学音楽学部ピアノ科卒業。3歳、自作曲をパルテノン多摩大ホールにて発表。音楽誌「ショパン」に掲載。5歳、自作曲「虹のブランコ」をTV朝日系列で放映。第23回ペトロフピアノコンクール審査員特別賞。及川音楽事務所新人オーディション最優秀新人賞。他受賞歴多数。学費免除でウィーン国立音楽大学ディプロマ取得。秦はるひ、高木早苗、楊麗貞の各氏に師事。現在、ソロリサイタルやデュオ、豪華クルーズ船VIPルームや米村でんじろう氏率いるサイエンスショー等での演奏など、多種多様なスタイルで期待に応える。また、「関ジャム完全燃SHOW」「関ジャニ∞のTheモーツァルト ピアノ王決定戦」等の編曲・音楽監修をし布袋寅泰氏らと番組を作る。趣味は世界一人旅、読書。
安島萌・・・国立音楽大学声楽科卒業。音楽座ミュージカルに入団し2014年に退団。主な出演歴は、音楽座ミュージカル【シャボン玉飛んだ宇宙まで飛んだ】、舞台【希望の星】、舞台【河童村ブルース】、ミュージカル【マリオネット】、短編映画【いもガール】主演、CM【SIXPAD トライアル2編】等。現在は、舞台、ミュージカル、メディアを中心に幅広く活躍している。趣味は舞台鑑賞、パスタ料理。
屋敷信香・・・武蔵野音楽大学器楽学科卒業。レコーディングディレクターの傍らスタジオミュージシャンとして主に80‘90年代のカラオケ音源制作に携わる。AMDEK(ローランドの子会社で現在のローランドDGの前身)からCMU-800を使用した日本初のPCミュージックを制作し発売。ファッションミュージックディレクターとしてNHKテレビ出演。 田中貫一、川崎優、青木明、齋藤賀雄の各氏に師事。現在、精力的に後進の指導にあたる他、出張演奏、演奏会の企画、運営をする。趣味は料理、作詩。
